The Sea to Shining Sea Tour - Plans, Ponies, and to the Pacific

We've been planning our summer field trip since February.  Like last year's trip, as we planned, it just kept getting bigger and bigger.  It was an all-hands-on-deck extravaganza.

Celia and I studied the map,

Luke researched places and distances that we called out to him,

...and Matthew kept track of the ever-changing itinerary.

I asked Jude if he'd like to see a REAL Pony Express barn, like the one he read about.  He then gave a a detailed explanation of the Pony Express, with visual aids.

Damien decided to draw what he wanted to see when we went to Marcelline, Missouri.

That's right, Marcelline is the hometown of Walt Disney!

As we planned, our journey originally would take us to the "Four Corners," but then Luke asked if we could go to the Petrified Forest National Park.  We opted to detour to there and then stay the night in Flagstaff, Arizona.  I realized that meant we were less than five hours from San Diego and the Pacific Ocean.  It was an easy decision: California or Bust!

Since we were starting from New Jersey, we decided to call it the "Sea to Shining Sea Tour" and began with a trip to the shore.

We decided to start out with our feet in the Atlantic, cross the United States, and put our feet in the Pacific Ocean.

And see a LOT of the country in between.  Come with us on our adventure!
